Having created a map called OhMyKenai... https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2403387430 ...I set out to test the map by ramping up a significant population quickly. This video shows the first steps of the test run: setting up a hydraulic dam (with spillway) for a ton of MW of power on the cheap; building, zoning and plumbing a very high density grid of highway-fed roads; putting in pedestrian pathways from residential to industry; installing a cargo train station; and providing services (medical, fire, police, mail, education) to the first wave of population - including a Liberal Arts College from the Campus expansion. Testing my map, OhMyKenai... https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2403387430 ...so focused am I upon the cool cyberpunk buildings popping up, and on placing an airport and my first high-density commercial zones, that I fail to notice warnings that sewage is backing up into my Cims' tap water. Oblivious to their suffering, I go on to place a Biofuel Bus Depot at the harbor, and attempt to draw a bus line. This alerts me to a disconnect in the highway network, which I track down to the "4 Way Hybrid" junction. I try using the Broken Node Detector mod to make doubly sure that the ramp is really broken, then fumblingly fix it. Next, while constructing highway access for the MB Module area during a lightning storm, I receive the annual report on the Liberal Arts College, so I pause to give a research grant and to add a Laboratory and a Media Lab, both of which increase the odds of successful Academic Works. Only now do I notice the water problem and solve it with a Water Purifier asset. Placing a few service buildings, including another rehab clinic for the recreationally using cyberpunks, I find in my asset menu a quaint church which functions as an elementary school. Placing this in the MB Module area, I set the District Style to German, do some work on the road system there, and plop the Unique Building "Clock Tower" (increases train speed) to continue in the unlock sequence for "Castle of Lord Chirpwick". I place also a plaza for the rapidly growing commercial zone, services (including UK-style fire house and police station), Japanese Gardens, and a bus line from the harbor. Returning to check on the original settlement, I see that industrial buildings have begun to pop up, provide them with services, and place a fancy ST Bio-Reactor to store and process garbage. Proceeding to the harbor area, I establish a low-density commercial Organic and Local Produce District surrounding the "Market Street" Unique Building, and a high-density commercial Tourist District featuring the "Sea Fortress". Testing my map, OhMyKenai... https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2403387430 ...I start out plopping and swapping around some service buildings, then establish a Blimp Depot at the harbor, place Blimp Stops there and in my starting area near the Passenger Train Station, Intercity Bus Station, and Airport, and create my first blimp line. There appear to be too many aircraft on the line, so I lower the budget for it, and while I am looking at finances, I adjust several other budgets, and lower taxes to 8% across the board. Next, I continue in the unlock sequence for Castle of Lord Chirpwick, by installing the Observation Tower in the starting area, and the Statue of Colossus (which has the effect of increasing duration of tourists' stay) in the MB Module area, where I also build a small road network of high-density commercial zone, install a Blimp Stop, and create blimp lines to harbor and start area. In the Policies menu for the entire map, I toggle Educational Blimps, Free Wi-Fi, and Automated Sorting. I go on to place several Public Library Buildings and to adopt the Book Fair policy. In the Cyberpunk District, I plop an asset called "Blade Runner Police Tower" and watch as a flying police cruiser emerges. Finally, I zone more industrial, extend the walking paths there, and place a "lava hole" for additional garbage processing. Testing my map, OhMyKenai... https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2403387430 ... as we rejoin the fray, I still have too many blimps in the air, so I ratchet down the budget on them some more. Then I work on the Tourist District and the Organic and Local Produce District, providing highway access with a "full-bore-underpass" asset, as well as needful services, and creating bus lines from the harbor. What follows is serious fun in the sandbox as I proceed with numerous fits and starts to send highways up the mountain and place the "Castle of Lord Chirpwick" monument at the peak. In the process, I laboriously place 3 zany junction assets, including the enormous, ungainly, brilliant "Fluxtrance 5 Way" by @agusingnavy. In the last moments of the video, I slap down a sweet circular mess of roads and walkways composed of four interlocking "Quarter Roundabout Grid" assets.
